Certainly, travel is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living... Mary Ritter Beard
I had to sleep at the airport last night because I was not sure how to get to a hotel. Staying at the airport over night was not bad at all. I met a few people who had their flights cancelled as well and were waiting to go home. Once guy names Jimmy had been there for 3 days because spirit airline left late and he missed his connection flight. I had only heard stories about being stranded at the airport but never been there myself. The only time it every happened to me Air Canada offered to put me up in a hotel but I elected to fly into London instead.
I had some interesting talks and good laughs until about 2:30am before I turned in for the night. I do have one thing to when I get back to Canada and that is send Jimmy some kinder eggs since you can not buy them in the States.
I have to say I had a good sleep surprisingly given I slept on airport seats. I slept until 8:10 which was prefect because I was able to brush my teeth and wash my face before jumping on the Sun trolley to the beach.
I ventured out to see some of Fort Lauderdale and it wasn't all that bad. I stood in the water but it was a little too chilly out for me to actually go for a swim. The water itself was cool and had there not been such a cool breeze I would have actually went swimming especially since I had to sleep at the airport and could not have a shower this morning.
I met girls who work for KIND named Jacqueline and Chelsea. They were giving out Kind Bars and gave me a few extra so I could have them as a snack at the airport. I even got asked to have my picture take with Jacqueline, which I posted on this blog as well as Facebook and Instagram.
After I was done at the beach I went to the Galleria Mall and walked around, I could have bought a lot of different things but taking them to Panama would have been a little hard.
Well at the beach and the mall I found Starbucks and boy was I happy. It was pretty chilly out today so getting to sit and enjoy some Starbucks drinks was nice. I will say that they do not make their refreshers the same as we do in Canada. I think they sweeten their passion tea. I didn't have the heart to ask the guy to make it again because he was very happy with himself when he made the drink right. My drinks are a little confusing with all my alterations.
I had my drink bought for me from a guy who was behind me in line because he said I was "because I was a pretty young girl with a nice smile and who was polite because I had asked how the barista's day was before I ordered." I usually ask someone how their day is going no matter where I am, I just find it to be the nice thing to do.
After a good day of walking around Fort Lauderdale I went back to the airport to see if I could fly out sooner. I have a flight but the airline told me to stay at the airport and see if I could get a sooner flight. I had changed it to go out on Dec 24th but if I can get on the flight that goes out Tuesday I want that one. If I can't get it changed tomorrow I am checking into a hotel.
Well I just wanted to post about my day. It really wasn't that exciting but it was a good day. Tomorrow I plan to go back to the beach for a little while and have a shower. I don't think I will ever get used to not having a shower everyday. It's the only thing that I am not looking forward to on this trip, well that and carrying a backpack for 5 weeks. I am going to need to get a massage when I get home.
Well until my next post. I won't be able to post much once I get to Central America but I will do my best.
Jessi
